Extension Programs and Projects

 USC social responsibility actions are guided by ethical, philosophic, pedagogic, and scientific principles, and are intimately bond to Teaching and Research.   Actions are referred to as   extension activities.

 Extension activities consolidate transforming actions that enable the relationship between University and Society by means of different activities.   Defined and implemented in face of reality requirements, the extension is essential for forming the student, qualifying the teacher, and exchanging with society.  

 Extension activities comprise Extension Programs and, within them, an array of Extension Projects, in addition to courses, events, as well as providing services, academic products, and others.

 The program intends contributing with Bauru collectors’ cooperatives and with the society itself regarding solid waste management optimization.

 The objective is highlighting the communication while a social process, present in different contexts and ways of understanding, planning, execution and application in the university and daily routine where it is inserted.

 The project is responsible for reviewing and designing public spaces in city’s districts, from a collaborative project process with the community.

 The general purpose that is present on all projects is circumscribed for promoting technical-scientific intervention actions, comprising several courses (Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, and Psychology) so that the adult diabetes mellitus patient may find paths towards health and quality of living; promoting actions with the community in general, focusing in preventive character interventions.

 The purpose is to improve the participants’ functional capacity and quality of living.   Activities consisted in physical and functional assessment, execution of therapeutic procedures and educational guidance towards health and well-being of the community assisted by the program.

 Today, the female sex constitutes the majority of Brazilian population and, consequently, they are the main users of the Brazilian Unified Healthcare System (SUS).   Concerned and vigilant to major demands, USC develops the program, which proposes actions in several healthcare levels (promotion, prevention, healing, and rehabilitation) in obstetric situations (pregnancy-puerperal cycle) emphasizing the mother-child binomial, as well as pathologic conditions (breast cancer).

 The Sacred Heart University, on August 1993, opened its doors so elderly people could take part in regular activities by the Open University to the Elderly and, similar to other historic contexts, has become one of the pioneers in the specialized care for this age group's persons.   Today, the Open University to the Elderly has been recognized as a major Extension program, developing studies and researches about aging theories and working practices with the elderly, contributing to the process of building specific knowledges and for perfecting the action and improving the care standard to the elderly population.  


 The Program discusses, evaluates and develops actions, strategies and resources that enable a full diversity participation in education, with health and well-being.

  • Aratibá Identity – Conducted with the Terena and Guarany ethnicity indigenous peoples, the project foresees the issuance of Scholarships as a way to provide college formation opportunity, and to enable an effective entry into the university for a historically excluded population.   After accessing college education, the biggest challenge is assuring the presence of indigenous students in the courses, providing for their difficulties and developing strategies for overcoming their particular and social demands.  
  • Wound Treatment Dispensary – The Wound Treatment Dispensary is an extension project developed by an interdisciplinary team employing specialized and suitable techniques for curatives with systematized protocols for care, seeking the treatment of lower limb ulcers.  
  • Ludic Activity in the State Hospital – During the internment of a child or adult, it is essential that the intervention of an interdisciplinary team, comprising the subjects’ biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions.  
  • Brazil Table Project – The Brazil Table is a food security and sustainable nutritional program, which redistributes exceeding foods suitable for consumption or without commercial value.   The suitable food has immediate reflexes in the individual's health and quality of living, developing immunities and significantly reducing the possibility of catching diseases.   Actions such as:   fight against famine, avoiding waste; fight against famine based on education; promote health based on nutrition; and develop a solidarity network with the community; these are the main objectives of the SESC Bauru BRAZIL TABLE program, which has been introduced on March 2003, and today has 45 donating companies and 80 social institutions enrolled that daily serve 29,028 persons.   
  • Integral Care Program to the Special Patient (PAIPE) – In developing countries, the incidence of persons with some kind of disability is 10% of the population, and 2/3 of it does not have any type of care.   The PAIPE is the result of a partnership between USC and the Bauru State Hospital, providing Integral Care to people with disabilities by integrating a dental surgeon with a multiprofessional team for promoting the patient’s oral health.   It is developed at USC (dispensary) dental clinics and at the State Hospital (hospital care), and it is characterized as an extension service provision project.
  • Teaching For Life:   Human Rights and Citizenship – The project is associated with the International Relation course and seeks discussing Education for Human Rights and for Citizenship by discussing transversal questions, present in the international scenario and in the civil society, such as migration, violence of all its forms, the importance of Non-government Organization and Institutions, and the citizen's response capability.
